Plaza Midwood’s queer shape-shifter, tucked into an unassuming Commonwealth Avenue storefront. On any given night, the 100-person room might become a live music venue, sapphic dance floor, drag stage, jazz jam, karaoke bar, or patio day party. Opened in 2007 by two lesbians and a gay man, and named for one of them, Petra, it is not quite a gay bar anymore and not quite not one. Charlotte’s queer community keeps finding the room and making it theirs.
