Effective date: October 3, 2026
By creating an account on beau. ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms") with Beau Period LLC, a Maine limited liability company ("Beau Period LLC," "we," "us," "our"), the operator of the App. If you do not agree, do not use the App. We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance, except that material adverse changes to the arbitration agreement are handled as described in Section 18 and require your affirmative acceptance.
These Terms contain a binding arbitration agreement and a class-action waiver (Section 18) that affect your legal rights. Please read them carefully.
beau. is an adult, sex-positive space for gay men. Alongside everyday social features, you may encounter frank discussion of sex and, within private (spicy) photos shared by mutual unlock, nudity and sexually explicit content. By using beau. you acknowledge this and agree that you are choosing to view adult content. beau. is not responsible for content shared between users (see Section 6).
Consent to adult content. beau. is an adult space, and by using it you accept that you may encounter frank, sexual conversation and themes. Beyond that, consent works in context. Some features are designed for the consensual exchange of adult content between adults; private ("spicy") photos, for example, are shared only by mutual unlock. Your use of a feature like that constitutes your consent to receive adult content through that feature, in the context in which that consent was given. Consent can also be given within a particular conversation or interaction, and it can be withdrawn. None of this is consent to harassment, to repeated unwanted content, to content sent after consent has been withdrawn or after you have asked someone to stop, or to content sent outside the context for which consent was given. That content violates these Terms (see Sections 5 and 6) and can be reported in the App.
You are responsible for all activity under your account. You agree to:
If something about a profile does not add up, whether from a report or a pattern we notice ourselves, we may ask you to confirm the profile is really you by taking a selfie in the App. A member of our team compares it with your profile photos and the selfie is then deleted, unless the account is banned (see our Privacy Policy). Until you complete that check, the App may be unavailable to you.
beau. uses a headspace system (Friends, Play, Dating) to match users by what they are looking for. You must select at least one headspace. You may change your headspaces at any time. Your profile and posts are shown only to users who share at least one headspace with you. A few things don't depend on headspace: people you're already messaging can still see you in that conversation; if you view someone's profile, they may see you in their recent viewers (unless you browse incognito, a beau.plus feature); if you RSVP to an event, you may appear on its guest list; and if you post to a Space, you appear on that Space's page.
beau. provides engagement actions (DTF, Friendzone, Not For Me) that affect how you interact with other users. DTF is silent until mutual. Friendzone sends an immediate notification. Not For Me is a soft hide that removes a user from your feeds and is reversible.
beau. supports private ("spicy") photos that are encrypted and only visible when both users have independently unlocked their photos for each other (mutual unlock). Unlocking your photos for someone does not imply any engagement or consent beyond photo sharing. You may revoke photo access at any time, which cuts access in both directions.
Private photo controls are designed to give you more choice over who can view certain content, but they are not a guarantee of confidentiality. Once content is shared with another user, beau. cannot control what that user may do with it outside the App, and screenshot deterrence cannot prevent every method of capture. Share private photos only with people you trust.
If you opt in to contact syncing, beau. can show the number of mutual connections you share with another user. The phone numbers in your contacts are sent to our servers over an encrypted connection and hashed there with a secret key; only the hashes are stored, and contact names are never sent. Only a count is displayed ("3 in common"). The identities of mutual friends are never revealed.
beau. includes Spaces, which are pages for public venues such as bars and cafes, built from public place information provided by third-party map services. Tagging a venue on a post or status while you are there shows you as present at that Space to other users whose headspace allows it (see The Feed below). You can also turn on Automatic Check-in, which is off by default and, when on, adds only to anonymous "here now" counts at a venue and never shows your name to others. Some venues are designated sensitive and are limited to the Play headspace. You may post photos to a Space's page; those photos are public and must comply with Sections 5 and 6. Venue information comes from third-party sources, and beau. does not guarantee its accuracy.
beau. has a feed. You can post text (up to 280 characters), a photo, a song, and a place. A post is shown to the users it can reach under the same headspace, block, and Not For Me rules that govern who sees your profile. A post you mark spicy (the flame) is shown only in the Play headspace, and a spicy photo posted to the feed is visible only to people you have mutually unlocked with and never joins your profile gallery. Your posts also appear on your profile's feed. Posts cannot be edited after they are published, but you can delete any post of yours at any time.
Some of what you do is posted to the feed automatically in your name: a new public profile photo, a playlist update, favoriting a Space, RSVPing to or hosting a public event, adding photos to a Space, a trip you add, being Out Now at a venue, and joining beau. These items use information already on your profile or already visible in the App and follow the same audience rules. They cannot be turned off as a group, but you can delete any of them, and they go away when you undo the thing behind them; turning off "Show going-out events" stops RSVP items and Hide Profile stops all of them. Our Privacy Policy describes these items in detail.
Hearts, reposts, and replies. Tapping the heart on a post tells its author you loved it; the author can see who hearted it, and other users see only a rough sense of how many. Other users may repost your posts with their own comment, and you may repost theirs. A repost points at the original rather than copying it, keeps the original's spicy setting and headspace scope, and is shown to the reposter's audience. If the original is hidden or taken down, or its author and the reposter block each other, the repost stops showing to others; if the original is deleted, the reposter's own comment remains as a post of its own. There are no public comments; replying to a post opens a direct message with its author.
Follows. You can follow a profile. Following is private: only you see who follows you and no follower counts exist anywhere. The person you follow is notified by name (a run of follows arrives as one notice, and they can turn these notices off in Settings); nobody is notified when you unfollow. A block ends a follow in both directions.
Place tags and Out Now. Tagging a venue or a city on a post shows that place on the post. If your phone is actually there, the tag also makes you Out Now at that place for about three hours: your name is shown at that place on its Space page, in the Out Now list, and on the post as "here now". Tagging a place you are not at is only a label. Automatic Check-in remains separate and anonymous.
Your feed, your rules. You can hide any post from your feed or mute an account's posts; neither is visible to the other person. You can report any post from the feed (Section 6).
You agree not to:
beau. has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. "Objectionable content" includes, without limitation: child sexual abuse material (CSAM), non-consensual intimate imagery, content depicting or promoting violence, sexual exploitation, hate speech, harassment, threats, doxxing, impersonation, illegal activity, deceptive content (including bots and fake profiles), and any content that violates these Terms or applicable law. Users who upload, transmit, or otherwise share objectionable content will be banned immediately and permanently.
Without limiting the above, you must not upload, share, or transmit content that:
All photos uploaded to beau., including photos posted to the feed, are scanned by automated content moderation systems before storage. This includes visual classification (Sightengine), hash matching against known CSAM databases (PhotoDNA/NCMEC), and automated detection of content that violates these Terms or is inconsistent with a genuine, authentic profile. This detection covers photos containing contact information, links, or QR codes, photos that are promotional or spam, and content that misrepresents your identity or impersonates another person. We may block, remove, or flag for review any photo that our systems detect as violating our content policies or as inconsistent with a genuine, authentic profile.
beau. is a space for genuine photos of real people and real moments. Photos that are generated by AI or otherwise synthetically produced are discouraged, and beau. may remove, restrict, or flag them for review.
Feed posts. The text of a post is checked by an automated filter for contact information and certain prohibited terms before it is published. In response to reports or to enforce these Terms, we may, with or without notice, hide a post from the feed (the author still sees it), limit a post to the Play headspace, remove a post, or mute an account's posts from the feed for a period. Automatic feed items are never muted, but they are removed when the content behind them is.
We reserve the right to:
No obligation to monitor. While we use automated tools and respond to reports, beau. may (but has no obligation to) monitor, review, or pre-screen User Content before or after it is posted. We do not endorse any User Content and are not responsible or liable for content posted by users. We assume no liability for any action or inaction regarding any user's content, and you upload and interact with User Content at your own risk.
How to report. If you encounter objectionable content or abusive behavior on beau., you can report it directly inside the App by opening a user's profile and choosing Report (or Block), by swiping a post in the feed and choosing More, then Report, or by emailing support@beauperiod.com. We commit to acting on all reports of objectionable content within 24 hours of receipt, including by removing the content, contacting the user, or ejecting the user from the platform as appropriate.
Encrypted messages and reports. Direct and group messages are end-to-end encrypted, so beau. cannot independently read the contents of your messages. If you report a specific message, the content you submit with that report, along with limited surrounding context, is decrypted on your device and shared with beau.'s safety team for review. This lets us act on message-based abuse without weakening encryption for anyone else; reporting discloses only the messages you choose to submit.
Your encryption key. The key that opens your messages is created on your device. On iPhone it is included in your phone's own backups, so restoring a backup onto a new iPhone brings your messages with it. If you turn on Chat backup, an encrypted copy of your key is also kept, as described in our Privacy Policy. We never receive your key in a form we can open, and we cannot recover it for you if it is lost. Your phone's backups, iCloud Keychain and Google Block Store are provided by Apple and Google under their own terms. We don't control them and aren't responsible if they fail or are unavailable.
By using beau., you agree to use these reporting tools to flag objectionable content rather than retaliating in-platform. Retaliatory or coordinated abuse of the reporting system itself is also a violation of these Terms.
beau. uses available platform controls and technical safeguards to deter or restrict screenshots and screen recording where technically supported. These safeguards reduce risk but cannot guarantee that another user will not capture, photograph, record, copy, or redistribute content using another device or method. Share private photos and sensitive content only with people you trust. Attempting to circumvent these protections is a violation of these Terms.
beau. provides a tiered blocking system:
Users who accumulate a high rate of safety blocks or reports may be flagged for review. Patterns of concerning behavior may result in account restrictions or termination. Some protective restrictions, including limiting an account's visibility to other members or requiring an identity check, are applied automatically from account, device, and location signals; you can ask us to review them (Section 13).
Safety advisory. beau. does not conduct criminal background checks on users and does not verify users' identities, backgrounds, or intentions beyond the account verification (by phone, Apple, or Google) and content moderation described in these Terms. You are solely responsible for your interactions with other users, online and in person. We strongly recommend that you: meet new people in a public place; tell a friend where you are going; never send money or financial information to someone you have not met; and stop communicating with anyone who pressures, threatens, or makes you feel unsafe. Never include financial information in your communications. If you feel you are in danger, contact local law enforcement immediately. You can report concerning behavior at any time through the in-App Report and Block tools or at support@beauperiod.com.
Health information. Some members share health-related information on their profiles (for example, HIV status, PrEP or doxyPEP use, testing history, or vaccination status). This information is self-reported and is not verified by beau. It may be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date. Do not rely on any other user's health information, and do not treat it as a substitute for your own precautions, testing, or professional medical advice. Health-related information, and any wellness resources in the App, are provided for general informational purposes only, are not medical advice, and beau. does not provide medical services or diagnose, treat, or advise on any condition. You are solely responsible for decisions you make about your sexual health and your interactions with other users. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Beau Period LLC is not responsible or liable for any reliance on, or any outcome resulting from, health information disclosed by another user.
beau. offers a free tier and a paid subscription, beau.plus. The free tier provides a complete, functional experience. beau.plus provides additional features for $7.99/month or $59.99/year (or such other price as may be in effect at the time of purchase).
beau. does not display third-party ads, run an ad network, sell user data, or embed tracking pixels. We may from time to time offer member perks or clearly-disclosed partner integrations (for example, a benefit reserved for beau.plus members); these are not ad placements and do not involve sharing your data with advertisers.
Referral rewards. beau. may offer a referral program that rewards members with complimentary beau.plus access for inviting new members. When you invite someone with your referral link and they create a new account using it, they receive a period of complimentary beau.plus, and you receive a period of complimentary beau.plus once that person has joined and remained an active member for a qualifying period. Referral rewards:
Apple App Store (iOS). beau. is distributed on iOS through the Apple App Store. You acknowledge and agree that:
Google Play (Android). If you download beau. from the Google Play Store, your use of the App is also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service. These Terms are an agreement between you and Beau Period LLC, not Google; Google is not responsible for the App or its content and is not a party to these Terms. In-app purchases on Android are processed through Google Play's billing system and are subject to Google's terms and refund policies.
You retain ownership of the content you upload to beau. (photos, profile text, prompt answers, statuses, feed posts including their photos and captions, and any photos you post to a Space). By uploading content, you grant beau. a limited, non-exclusive license to store, display, and transmit your content as necessary to operate the App, including showing your posts to their audience and showing them, quoted, within other users' reposts. Photos you post to a Space's page are public and visible to other users who can view that Space. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except that, for content or data we are permitted or required to retain as described in our Privacy Policy, it continues only for that retained material, only for as long as it is retained, and only as needed for the purpose that permits or requires the retention.
Reposts and songs. By posting to the feed you allow other users to repost your post with their comment as the App provides. A repost points at your post rather than copying it, and stops showing your content when your post is deleted or hidden; the reposter's own words remain theirs. Songs attached to posts are links to Apple Music; the artwork and audio come from Apple and are subject to Apple's terms.
Your responsibility for what you upload. You are solely responsible for everything you upload. You must have the rights and permissions reasonably necessary to upload and share your content on beau., and it must not violate another person's privacy, publicity rights, intellectual property, or other legal rights. Ordinary photos with incidental people in the background (a crowded bar, a street fair) do not violate this rule by themselves, but the specific rules in Section 5 still apply, including the prohibitions on impersonation and on posting photos of another person to a Space without their consent.
Sexual and intimate content. A strict standard applies to any content that includes nudity or is sexually explicit or otherwise intimate. You represent and warrant that every person depicted in such content is at least 18 years old and was at least 18 when the content was created, and that you have the consent you need from every person depicted to create, possess, and share the content on beau. Non-consensual intimate imagery, content created or shared without the consent of a person depicted, and sexually exploitative content of any kind are prohibited (see Section 6). If content you upload depicts anyone other than yourself in a sexual or intimate context, we may ask you for information sufficient to confirm that person's age and consent, and we may remove the content or restrict your account if you cannot provide it.
Federal record-keeping laws. Certain persons who create or produce sexually explicit content may be subject to federal age-verification and record-keeping requirements, including 18 U.S.C. §§ 2257 and 2257A and their implementing regulations. You are responsible for determining whether those requirements apply to content you create or upload and for complying with them if they do. Nothing in these Terms determines or allocates "producer" status, or any other status, under those laws.
Feedback. If you send us ideas, suggestions, or other feedback about beau., you grant Beau Period LLC a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable, and transferable license to use that feedback for any purpose, with no obligation or compensation to you.
beau.'s intellectual property. Apart from the content members upload, everything that makes up beau. belongs to Beau Period LLC and/or its licensors: the App, its software, interfaces and design, graphics, branding, logos, trademarks (including "beau." and "beau.plus"), original content we create, and other proprietary elements. These are protected by intellectual-property laws, and nothing in these Terms transfers any of them to you. We claim no ownership of the content you upload.
Your license to use beau. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the App as intended and in accordance with these Terms. This license does not permit any use prohibited by Section 5, including scraping, automated access, AI training or text-and-data mining, or reverse engineering.
beau. respects intellectual property rights and expects users to do the same. If you believe content on beau. infringes your copyright, send a written notice to our designated copyright agent at support@beauperiod.com (subject line: "DMCA Notice") that includes: (1) your physical or electronic signature; (2) identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed; (3) identification of the material you claim is infringing and information reasonably sufficient to let us locate it; (4) your name, address, and contact information; (5) a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and (6) a statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf.
We will respond to valid notices as required by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512), including by removing or disabling access to the material. It is beau.'s policy to terminate the accounts of users who are repeat infringers.
By you: You may delete your account at any time through Settings. Deletion is permanent: your profile, photos, posts, the messages you sent, engagements, follows, and your other account data are deleted as described in our Privacy Policy. We may keep limited information after deletion where the Privacy Policy describes it or the law requires it (for example, safety incident records and safety reports kept for safety, abuse and fraud prevention, and legal compliance, records we must preserve under a legal hold, and records needed to resolve disputes). The messages you sent are deleted from beau.'s servers on the timeline described in the Privacy Policy (so they also disappear for the people you sent them to), but messages another user sent you may remain in their account until they delete it. We cannot remove copies that another user has already saved, screenshotted, exported, or captured on another device. Deleting your account does not automatically cancel a paid subscription (see Section 9).
By us: We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, engage in prohibited conduct, or if we are required to do so by law. Accounts associated with CSAM are terminated immediately and reported to law enforcement.
Banned users are signed out of the App and cannot create new accounts.
Appeals. If you believe your account was restricted, suspended, or terminated in error, you may contact support@beauperiod.com for review. We may decline review or uphold immediate termination where the violation involves CSAM, threats, trafficking, exploitation, non-consensual intimate imagery, repeated harassment, or other severe safety risks.
Your use of beau. is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your information.
beau. is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. We do not verify the identity, background, or intentions of users beyond the account verification (by phone, Apple, or Google) and content moderation described in these Terms.
You use beau. at your own risk. Exercise caution when meeting people from the internet. We are not responsible for the conduct of any user, online or offline.
Assumption of risk. You understand that your use of beau. may involve known, unknown, and unanticipated risks, including risks arising from the acts or intentions of other users, both online and in person. beau. is a venue for meeting other people; we do not screen users, control their conduct, or guarantee that any interaction will be safe. You knowingly and voluntarily assume all risk arising from your use of the App and from any communication or meeting with another user.
Release. To the maximum extent permitted by law, you release, waive, and discharge Beau Period LLC and its officers, members, employees, and agents from any and all claims, demands, damages, losses, liabilities, and causes of action of every kind, whether known or unknown, arising out of or in any way related to (a) your interactions or communications with any other user, (b) anyone you meet or attempt to meet through the App, and (c) the acts or omissions of any user, including claims for bodily injury, emotional distress, property damage, or wrongful death. If you are a California resident, you expressly waive California Civil Code Section 1542, which provides: "A general release does not extend to claims that the creditor or releasing party does not know or suspect to exist in his or her favor at the time of executing the release and that, if known by him or her, would have materially affected his or her settlement with the debtor or released party." You waive any similar statute or rule in any other jurisdiction.
Marketing materials and AI-generated imagery. Screenshots, mockups, profile cards, and other imagery shown on beauperiod.com, in App Store listings, and in any promotional channels are provided for illustrative purposes only. Actual interfaces, copy, and features may vary. The people depicted in those marketing materials are not real beau. users. They are AI-generated likenesses created solely for illustration. Any resemblance to a real person, living or deceased, is unintentional and coincidental.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, beau. and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App, including but not limited to emotional distress, loss of data, or interactions with other users.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the total liability of Beau Period LLC and its officers, employees, and agents arising out of or related to these Terms or your use of the App shall not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you paid to Beau Period LLC for the App in the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) one hundred U.S. dollars ($100.00). This limitation applies whether the claim is based in contract, tort, statute, or any other legal theory, and even if Beau Period LLC has been advised of the possibility of such damages. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages; in such jurisdictions, the limitations above apply to the fullest extent permitted by law.
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Beau Period LLC and its officers, members, employees, and agents from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your use or misuse of the App; (b) your interactions with any other user, online or offline; (c) your content; (d) your violation of these Terms; or (e) your violation of any law or of the rights of another user or third party. We reserve the right to assume the exclusive defense and control of any matter subject to indemnification by you, in which case you agree to cooperate with our defense of that claim.
Governing law. These Terms and any dispute arising out of or related to them or your use of the App are governed by the laws of the State of Maine, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply. The Federal Arbitration Act governs the interpretation and enforcement of the arbitration agreement in this Section.
Informal resolution first. Before starting an arbitration or filing a claim in small claims court, you agree to first try to resolve the Dispute informally by emailing a description of it, and the relief you seek, to hey@beauperiod.com with the subject line "Notice of Dispute." You and Beau Period LLC will then work in good faith to resolve the Dispute for sixty (60) days after the notice is received. Completing this process is a precondition to starting arbitration, and the one-year time limit below is paused while the parties comply with it.
Binding arbitration. Except as set forth below, any dispute, claim, or controversy between you and Beau Period LLC arising out of or relating to these Terms or the App ("Dispute") shall be resolved exclusively by final, binding, individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") under its Consumer Arbitration Rules then in effect. The arbitration shall be conducted by a single arbitrator. Unless you and Beau Period LLC agree otherwise, any hearing will ordinarily be conducted remotely (by videoconference or telephone) or decided on written submissions; if the arbitrator determines that an in-person hearing is appropriate, the hearing location will be determined in accordance with the AAA Consumer Arbitration Rules. The arbitrator's decision shall be final and binding, and judgment on the award may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction.
Small claims exception. Either party may bring an individual claim in small claims court for any Dispute that qualifies, so long as the claim remains in small claims court and proceeds on an individual (non-class, non-representative) basis.
Class action waiver. YOU AND BEAU PERIOD LLC AGREE THAT EACH MAY BRING CLAIMS AGAINST THE OTHER ONLY IN AN INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY, AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY PURPORTED CLASS, COLLECTIVE, OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING. The arbitrator may not consolidate the claims of multiple parties or preside over any class, collective, or representative proceeding.
Jury trial waiver. If for any reason a Dispute proceeds in court rather than in arbitration, you and Beau Period LLC each knowingly and irrevocably waive any right to a trial by jury.
Opt-out. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing hey@beauperiod.com within thirty (30) days of first accepting these Terms, with the subject line "Arbitration Opt-Out" and including your full name and the email address or phone number associated with your account (the identifier you use to sign in), so we can locate it. Opting out does not affect any other provision of these Terms.
Changes to this Section. If we make a material change to this Section 18 that adversely affects your rights, we will notify you and ask for your affirmative acceptance (for example, through an in-App prompt) before the change applies to you; if you do not accept, the most recent version of this Section that you did accept continues to apply. No change to this Section applies to a Dispute that arose, or of which either party had notice, before the change took effect.
Venue for non-arbitrable disputes. Any Dispute that is not subject to arbitration (including injunctive or equitable relief in aid of arbitration) shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Cumberland County, Maine, and you and Beau Period LLC consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.
Time limit. To the extent permitted by law, any Dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the App must be filed within one (1) year after the claim arose; otherwise it is permanently barred.
The App. beau. is evolving. We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the App, including any feature or paid benefit, at any time, with or without notice. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any such change, and a change to or discontinuation of a beau.plus feature does not entitle you to a refund except as required by the applicable app store's policies or by law.
These Terms. We may update these Terms at any time. We will notify users of material changes through the App or via push notification. Your continued use of beau. after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms, except that material adverse changes to the arbitration agreement are handled as described in Section 18.
